First stop today was Sitting Bull's grave overlooking the Missouri River, which was his home. It is a very impressive monument.

Then it was on to Abraham Lincoln State Park and the last home of General George Armstrong Custer. It was from that he left on his ill-fated journey to the Little Big Horn river. Costumed interpreters told us the story as if we were visitors of their own time, which they target as 1873. they are excellent at staying in time and character.

Our final destination for this 5th day out of Saint Charles was Bismarck, ND, where we were treated to a very nice boat ride on the Missouri. the different mode of travel was very relaxing, and everyone appreciated it. Dinner was excellent at the Red Lobster right next to our motel. Here's three of our lovely ladies enjoying the cruise.
Our flag bearer of the day spends a thoughtful moment contemplating our flag and the river going by.
North Dakota's capitol building does not have a dome. The original Capitol burned down in the 1930's and the new one was built to make better use of available space. This view is from the Riverboat. The campus contains a nice arboretum, sculpture garden, and the state historical museum. Dome or not the entire complex is very impressive. Their ornithology exhibit is large and wonderful.

And speaking of birds don't forget to check out our Bird Book. We tell about sightings of the day and feature at least one picture. All on the bus contribute sightings and Bob Eisenhard generally does a little write-up. At the end of the trip we plan to publish a list, which now stands at over 30.
