Friday June 20 - From Mary Jane Miles

We arrived at Missouri Headwaters State Park and Tom led us on a hike while the bus went ahead for Don to set up lunch in the picnic grove. Heavy rain (almost hail) overtook us and, by the time we arrived at the grove we had a new realization of the arduous trek of the corps. But, our Capt. Lewis dispensed only coffee -- not a "ration." A beautiful sight, where the Jefferson, Madison and Gallitin Rivers come together to form the Missouri!! Mary Jane Miles

From Bette Worley

Our instructor, Tom Laidlaw, loves to see the confluence of rivers so he took us on a walk to see the 3 rivers, Gallatin, Jefferson, & Madison becoming the Missouri River. Black clouds loomed on the horizon but Don Popejoy, our coordinator said: "It's going the other way, you won't get wet. Well, we did; it thundered & lightninged and rained on the "Corps of Discovery."  We got back to our lunch site and ate in wet clothes & boarded the bus for a 2 hr. ride to Helena, MT. A true Lewis and Clark experience. Bette Worley
