Today, the last day of our journey, we visited Fort Clatsop and had wonderful interpretation of the winter of 1805-06 from naturalist Barbara Minard. She told us about Lewis and the Corps of Volunteers for NorthWestern Discovery looking for elk and said we should help Lewis look for them. She told us to look out for Elk sign and I was completely caught off guard when we saw a modern road sign: ELK. Her timing was perfect.
After dinner Friday evening we had our parting ceremony. Our flag was carried in by James and Diane Williams with John Nickels playing "To the Colors" on the soundenhorn. John, an accomplished horn player was actually able to get a tune out of the very limited boatman's horn.

After singing "God Bless America" each of us told about the special, most touching moments of our trip. Many were most impressed with the Great Falls, and all agreed they had learned a lot.
