Our instructor, Tom Laidlaw, presented a
characterization of Peter Skene Ogden, a famous fur trader and trapper in
the Northwest for the Hudson's Bay Company. Ogden is noted for his 6 years
making a fur desert out of the Snake River Country. Yes, Ogden, UT is
named for him because he orked that area. After a talk about his life and
times he revealed the secret kept for many days by one of our
Elderhostelers, Pat Normand. Pat is the great, great, great granddaughter
of the real Peter Skene Ogden. What has Ogden got to do with Lewis and
Clark? His wife, and Pat's ggggrandmother as the step-daughter of Francois
Rivet, one of the French boatmen on the expedition. Rivet was the one who
"danced on his head" This location is the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center
