Sunday was kind of Architecture Day. It started with The Pineapple, a retreat or folly of one Lord Dunmore, built in 1761. it was much in ruins when acquired by Historic Scotland.

Before and after restoration in 1970

Another bonus was the Airth Castle on the way to The Pineapple.

Then it was off to Linlithgow for a ride on the other canal, the Union Canal from Edinburgh. Linlithgow, I discovered, is the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. Below is the Royal Palace since the 1400s

Below is the second longest aqueduct in the UK, the Avon aqueduct over the Avon River on the Union Canal.
On Wednesday, I will take a wee little drive on this wee little boat, for a wee bit on the canal. The boats stationed here belong to the Linlithgow Union Canal Society, anothe group instrumental in preserving the canals

Across from the canal basin is this unusual dovecote.
