Saturday God blessed me with some new friends and a private long tour on the canal. But before I got to the meeting place i saw more of the canal and another fort. |
|
Canal boats were pulled by horses, and many of the stables remain.
They are often turned into pubs.
|
|
A sign in town says this fort is 1/4 mile, but it felt like a mile
since it is all uphill. Well worth it, though.

Here is another old stable turned
restaurant. Can you guess its name? That's right, The Stables. Here
is the boat we took to Glasgow to pick up some walkers. It belongs
to the Forth and Clyde Canal Society, which was instrumental in
restoring the canals. I am a member, and the others were happy to
meet an American member and tell the history.

|
The walkers are led by a famous canal
author, Guthrie Hutton. Another Lucky Strike Extra for me, as much of
my research was from his books.
|
|
And here's the crew. Tommy Lawton.
Malcolm --, Guthrie Hutton, Donald Mackinnon, Nancy Lawton. All
charter members of the society. I applaud their work.
