Today I took the train into Edinburgh and hopped on and off the tour bus all day. The castle was most impressive.

The highest point in Edinburgh is Arthur's Seat. From this summit it is said the legendary king gave all he could see to his cousin, King Loth, resulting in Mid-Lothian, West Lothian, etc. Back in America we see guitar players on the stree. Here we see pipers in full regalia. And in the castle we met Malcolm Camore, who slew Macbeth in battle to regain the crown for his family.

High on Calton Hill there is a monument to Horatio Nelson. It looks like an inverted telescope. Alongside it is an unfinished replica of the Parthenon The builder ran out of money.

The ball you see on top of the Nelson Tower is a time ball. Each day at 1 p.m. it was raised on the pole and suddenly dropped, to give a good time fix to ships in the Firth of Forth. It operated  from 1853 continually till sometime last year, and has not yet been fixed.
On the right below is a grandstand which is set up each year just outside the castle for the Military Tatoo in August - a show with several military bands.
Arthurs's seat, rising behind Holyrood Palace, is the highest point in Edinburgh. It is said that the legendary king gave all he could see from here to his cousin, King Loth. From this we get Mid-Lothian, West Lothian, etc.
